Organic Pedigree Dexter Beef comes from Dexter cattle, a small and hardy breed known for producing rich, flavourful beef. These cattle are raised according to organic farming standards, ensuring they are free from synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, and hormones.
Our beef is raised on Keadeen Mountain Farms, located outside Kiltegan at the foothills of Keadeen Mountain on the south side of the Wicklow mountains. Our family has been farming this land for 70 years across three generations, and we maintain Ireland's largest pedigree Dexter herd across 400 acres of mountain pasture.
Our cattle roam freely across 400 acres of Wicklow mountain pasture for 8-9 months each year. They graze on multi-species grasses including chicory, plantain, and deep-rooted varieties, plus red clover silage. This natural lifestyle means minimal stress, no confinement, and cattle that live as close to their natural state as possible while still being carefully managed.
Yes, we are certified organic by Organic Trust (Ireland) and undergo rigorous annual inspections to ensure compliance with EU organic standards. This means no synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilisers are used. Our cattle receive 100% organic, non-GMO feed including our unique hemp-enriched mix of organic barley, peas, and oats.
Dexter cattle are Ireland's native breed and much smaller than commercial cattle, producing lower methane emissions. Their size creates beautifully marbled beef often called the "Wagyu of the North." Our Dexters are hemp-fed (unique in Europe), wet-aged for 17 days, and produce meat that's naturally rich in omega-3s with a distinctive traditional flavour that's dark, rich, and red-brown in colour.
